Plate and Frame Filter Press Machine
Our plate and frame filter press machine is a reliable solution for solid-liquid separation, designed to deliver high efficiency across industries like mining, chemical manufacturing, and wastewater treatment. By pressing slurry through filter cloths, it separates liquids from solids, producing a dry filter cake for easy disposal or reuse.

Introduction to Plate and Frame Filter Press
The plate and frame filter press is used in many industries to separate solid materials from liquids. It is known for how well it separates solids from liquids. This makes it a popular choice in wastewater treatment, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage processing, and chemical manufacturing, among other applications.
The plate and frame filter press is made up of several parts. It has a thrust plate, a compression plate, a filter plate, and a filter frame. It also has a beam, a filter medium (filter cloth), a compression device, and a liquid collection tank. The plates and frames are arranged in an alternating pattern, and the filter cloth covers both sides of the filter plates. The plates and frames are pressed tightly by the hydraulic cylinder. This creates a filter press chamber between the plates and frames. There are holes on the corners of the filter frame and filter plate. When they are put together, these holes form a channel that can be used to pump water into and out of the filter.
The plate and frame press filter is batch operation, which means that the operation must be stopped to remove the filter cake before the next batch can be started. The filtering cycle takes between 20 minutes and 3 hours, depending on the characteristics of the filtering material. The vacuum belt filter can work continuously. If you have a lot of material to process, you can also use the vacuum belt filter.

Plate and Frame Filter Press Working Principle
Here’s how the process of one batch filtration works:
- The filter plates and frames will close when you press the button on the PLC control cabinet. This will activate the hydraulic clamps that hold the plates in place.
- Filling: The sludge (or slurry) will be pumped into the chamber one by one. When all the chambers are full of filter cakes, the filtration is finished.
- Filter plates and frames opening: The moving head is pulled back to disconnect the first filter. The cake falls will drop from the plates or frames because of gravity. The auto-pulling system pulls out the plates one by one.
- How to wash filter cloth: You should usually wash your clothes every 15 to 100 batches. A filter press with a filter cloth washing system can make things much more efficient.
The automatic plate pulling system and filter cloth washing system mentioned above are additional features of the fully automatic plate and frame filter press. The fully automatic filter press is much more efficient than regular filter presses. The automatic pulling plate can pull one or more filter plates at a time to unload the filter cakes, and the filter cloth washing system can automatically clean the filter cloth, which greatly reduces the time and labor costs.

Plate and Frame Filter Press VS Recessed Chamber Filter Press
The plate and frame filter press and the chamber filter press are both commonly used to separate solid from liquid. However, each has its own unique features and benefits.
The plate and frame filter press uses separate plates and frames that are switched out. The frames act as chambers for the slurry to be pumped into. Solids collect on the frame while filtrate passes through the plate. The chamber filter press is made up of only recessed plates. Recessed plates mean that there is no filter frame. The recessed plates create built-in chambers between them. Because of how they are designed, chamber filter presses usually have a higher filling capacity than plate and frame types.
Plate and frame filter presses are better for thin slurry with less solid content. Chamber filter presses are better for thick slurry with more solid content because they can hold more cake. The choice between the two depends on how they will be used and the properties of the slurry to be processed.
The recessed plate filter press can also handle more pressure than the plate and frame filter press.

6 Factors that Affect Filtering Cycle
- The thickness of the filter chamber: The thicker the filter chamber, the slower the feeding and filling, so the filtration time is longer.
- Feed pump: The pressure from the feed pump is closely related to how long the water is filtered. A pump that can handle higher pressure can make the filtration process faster.
- How fast the filter plate is pulled depends on the hydraulic device and the device that moves the filter plate.
- Filter cloth: The density of the filter cloth can also affect the filtration cycle.
- Slurry: The density and makeup of the slurry will affect how well it filters.
- Flocculant or supporting agent: Flocculant or supporting agent can help filter the slurry better.
How to Shorten Filter Cycle Time
- Choose a filter plate that is the right thickness, and don’t make the filter chamber too thick.
- Choose a pump that can handle the material and can provide high pressure.
- The size of the hydraulic cylinder affects how fast the filter plate moves. It is important to choose the right size. At the same time, an automatic plate-pulling system can be installed to improve efficiency.
- Choose the filter cloth with the best density based on how the material loses water. If the slurry is hard to dehydrate, you can add flocculants or supporting agents to reduce the filtration time.
