Vertical Filter Press Introduction

The automatic vertical filter press, also called the filter cloth-run type fully automatic filter press, is a type of machine that filters materials. This type of filter press first appeared in the former Soviet Union in the 1960s. Later, Germany, Finland, the United States, and other countries started researching and manufacturing it. It is widely used to filter nickel, fine filter ore, zinc oxide leaching solution, enzymes, starch, caustic sludge, zeolite, and copper concentrate, among other things.

Vertical Automatic Press Filter Characteristics

It has a large capacity and is highly automated. The six steps of filtration, extrusion, washing, secondary extrusion, and dry cake discharge are automatic and ongoing. It can produce six times more than a plate and frame filter press with the same filtering area.
The cake’s moisture content should be as low as possible. This way, the maximum extrusion pressure can reach 1.6 MPa. Then, it’s dried by compressed air to get a low filter cake moisture content. The moisture can reach lower than 10% without considering crystal water. Sometimes, the ideal result can be achieved without the traditional process of drying. This saves a lot of energy.
The washing step improves performance. The filter cloth can be used in both positive and negative modes and has self-cleaning properties. The filter cloth is placed horizontally, and the thickness of the filter cake is uniform. The cake can reach a thickness of up to 45 mm.
Compact structure. Since it is a vertical device, it doesn’t take up much space on the ground. This can reduce the cost of the workshop.
The equipment is controlled by the PLC control cabinet. It has self-detecting and auto-alarm functions.

Vertical Filter Press Working Principle

The process can be broken down into six stages, but in practice, you can mix and match these stages however you like.

(1) The slurry was pumped into all chambers. As the filtrate flows out, the filer cake forms.
(2) Membrane press 1: high-pressure water is pumped into the membrane in each chamber. This pushes the filter cake further, and more liquid flows out.
(3) Membrane Press 2: Water was pumped through the filter cake at high pressure, washing away the membrane. This process was efficient and used little water.
(4) The filter cake was dried in the last step of dehydration. Compressed air cools the filter cake to reduce its moisture again.
(5) The filter cake is removed from the chambers when the filter cake discharge system and the filter cloth plate and frame system are started.
