Un m\u00f3dulo EDI consta de varias unidades conectadas en paralelo. Cada unidad EDI incluye una resina de intercambio i\u00f3nico, una membrana y un campo el\u00e9ctrico de corriente continua. Las membranas de intercambio i\u00f3nico se clasifican en membranas de intercambio ani\u00f3nico y membranas de intercambio cati\u00f3nico. Las membranas de intercambio cati\u00f3nico s\u00f3lo permiten el paso de cationes, bloqueando los aniones y el agua.<\/p><p>Por el contrario, las membranas de intercambio ani\u00f3nico s\u00f3lo permiten el paso de aniones. Las membranas de intercambio ani\u00f3nico y cati\u00f3nico se disponen alternativamente para formar una serie de c\u00e1maras de agua concentrada y de agua dulce. La secci\u00f3n de agua dulce se llena con una resina de intercambio i\u00f3nico mixta de aniones y cationes. Bajo la influencia del campo el\u00e9ctrico de corriente continua aplicado, los cationes se desplazan hacia el c\u00e1todo, mientras que los aniones lo hacen hacia el \u00e1nodo. Cada uno de ellos entra en la c\u00e1mara de agua concentrada adyacente a trav\u00e9s de la membrana de intercambio i\u00f3nico, reduciendo as\u00ed el contenido de iones en el agua del canal de agua
